Safeguarding Your Pet's Health and Future

Vaccination Services

Vaccines continue to play a major role in protecting your pets from diseases as they grow older. However, it’s best to start vaccinations as early as when your pet is 6-8 weeks old to build their immunity properly. At Zia Vet Clinic, we offer cat and dog vaccinations not only to ensure your pet’s health, but to also curb the spread of harmful diseases throughout the community and beyond. At the same time, we’re careful about not over administering vaccines, making sure each pet only receives the vaccine they truly require.

Our veterinary team stays up to date with the latest research and veterinary guidelines to ensure that we only administer vaccines that are necessary and beneficial. We carefully assess your pet’s lifestyle, environment, and risk factors before creating a personalized vaccination schedule. This approach prevents over-vaccination and ensures your pet receives exactly what they need—no more, no less. Your pet’s safety, comfort, and long-term health are always our top priorities.

WE TAILOR OUR CAT AND DOG VACCINES TO EACH INDIVIDUAL PET

Our veterinarians recommend vaccines for pets based on their lifestyle, illness risks, and suggested medical guidelines. This protocol makes it easier for us to help you decide which vaccines will be best suited to your pet’s needs, and prevent over-vaccination entirely.

REQUIRED VACCINES:

All the recommended vaccines target diseases that are extremely infectious and dangerous, especially for young cats and dogs, and are found worldwide. They are considered highly protective against these diseases, posing minimal risk, which is why it is recommended that all cats and dogs should receive these core vaccines regardless of where they live and under which conditions.

The Four Core Vaccines for Cats are:

1. FVRCP Vaccine
This is a combination vaccine that protects against three serious diseases:

Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR): A contagious respiratory infection caused by feline herpesvirus.

Calicivirus: Another major cause of respiratory illness in cats.

Panleukopenia (Feline Distemper): A highly contagious and often fatal viral disease.

2. Rabies
Rabies is a fatal viral disease that affects the nervous system and can be transmitted to humans. Vaccination is required by law in many areas.

These core vaccines are essential for all cats, regardless of whether they live indoors or outdoors, as they protect against the most common and dangerous feline diseases.

Which Vaccines are Required for Dogs:

Dog vaccination starts at the age of 6 weeks and these Core vaccines are recommended for all dogs.

1. DHPP (or DAPP) Vaccine
This is a combination vaccine that protects against four major diseases:

Distemper.
Hepatitis (Adenovirus).
Parvovirus.
Leptospirosis.

2. Rabies
Rabies is a deadly virus that affects the nervous system and can be transmitted to humans. It is legally required in many regions and typically administered annually or every three years.

Non-core or optional vaccine:

Parainfluenza: A virus that contributes to kennel cough.
